Q & A on Heaven

Q What will happen to the "old" heaven and the "old" earth?

A The Day of the Lord will come like a thief¼ the heavens will pass away with a roar, the heavenly bodies will burn up and be destroyed, and the earth and all its works will melt away. 2 Peter 3:10 Goodspeed

Q What will happen to our body?

A But someone may ask¼ With what kind of body will they come?¼ The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable¼ it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:35,42,44 NIV

Q Will we miss our old life on earth?

A Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be re-membered, nor will they come to mind. Isaiah 65:17 NIV

Q Will we eat in heaven?

A But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. Matthew 26:29 KJV

Q What will be missing in heaven?

A He shall wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more— no more wailing, no more crying, no more pain. Revelation 21:4, Moffat

Q How will we spend our time in heaven?

A But God, who is rich in mercy ¼ even when we were dead in sins¼ has made us to sit together in heavenly places¼ that in the ages to come he might show the ex-ceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:7 KJV

Q Will we know each other in heaven?

A Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face.

1 Corinthians 13:12 NIV

Q Will we know about the unsaved ?

A And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would go from heaven to you cannot; neither can they come to us from Hell.

Luke 16:26 KJV

Q Is heaven everybody's "dream world"?

Brand New!

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning, or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." –Revelation 21:1-4

Evil and Sin Banished

No longer will there be any curse¼ The throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. And they will reign for ever and ever. –Revelation 22:3-5

The student doubtless noticed that the Judgment of the Great White Throne was conducted neither in earth nor in heaven, but apparently in space [20:11].

This "New Jerusalem" [21:1-2] is not Hea-ven, for it comes down from God out of Heaven. Perhaps it will be swung in space somewhere just above the earth...

Would a Sinner Feel

at Home in Heaven?

John Milton, Paradise Lost, Edited by Henry W. Boyn-ton, Norwood Press, Mass., 1916, p62

Suppose he should relent,

And publish grace to all, on promise made

Of new subjection; with what eyes could we

Stand in his presence, humble, and receive

Strict laws imposed, to celebrate his throne

With warbled hymns, to his Godhead sing

Forced Hallelujahs; while he lordly sits

Our envied sovran, and his altar breathes

Ambrosial odors and ambrosial flowers,

Our servile offerings? This must be our task In Heaven, this our delight. How wearisome

Eternity so spent in worship paid

To whom we hate!

John Milton, Paradise Lost, Edited by Henry W. Boyn-ton, Norwood Press, Mass., 1916, p62

Everlasting Life!

Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had for-med. And the Lord God made all kinds of tees grow out of the ground– trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. –Genesis 2:8-9 NIV

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life...on each side of the river stood the tree of life¼

Revelation 22:1-2 NIV

Juan Ponce DeLeón

This early Spanish arrival [1513], to what is now the Florida mainland, was seeking the Fountain of Youth immortality! Like him, many others have sought everlasting life through self-cleansing acts, pious deeds, and elaborate funeral rites.

Christ: Eternal Life

ü A young man fell on his knees before Jesus. He said, "Rabbi, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" –Mark 10:17

ü For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life... –John 6:40

ü I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

–John 5:24

ü God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. –1 John 5:11

Life for a few, or for all?

When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord, and all who were appointed for eternal life believed. –Acts 14:48 NIV

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. –John 3:16 NIV
