Gog and Magog?

This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras.

Genesis 10:1-2 NIV

This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot an-ger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. ¼ Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: "This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, O Gog,1 chief prince of Meshech and Tubal .

¼ I will bring you from the far north 2¼ On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. ¼ I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coast land, 3 and they will know that I am the Lord.¼ On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Is-rael¼ for seven months the house of Israel will be burying them¼ to cleanse the land.

Ezekiel 38:18, 39:12, Excerpts NIV

1 Gog is a prince of Meshech and Tubal, who are bro- thers of Magog; therefore Magog is uncle to Gog.

2 far north some say this might refer to certain peo-

ples or nations located north of Israel.

3 coast land some say this might refer to certain mari-time peoples or nations located in a coastal region.

Magog and Scythians

It doesn’t matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, or if you are circumcised or not. You may even be a barbarian or a Scythian, and you may be a slave or a free person. Yet Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Colossians 3:11 CEV

In St. Paul’s day, among those who ac-cepted Christ as Savior were Scythians from central Asia and northeastern Europe, a barbaric people descended from Magog and Gog. The term Scythian came to be used as a synonym for that which is brutal and degraded.

In the book of Colossians St. Paul says that Christ can save a barbarian, such as a Scythian, and in Revelation we have St. John saying that Scythians [Magog] will be involved in fighting against God in the Battle of Gog and Magog.

Satan’s Last Skirmish

At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be set free. He will fool the countries of Gog and Magog, which are at the far ends of the earth, and their people will follow him into battle. They will have as many followers as there are grains of sand along the beach, and they will march all the way across the earth. They will surround the camp of God’s people and the city that his people love. But fire will come down from heaven and destroy the whole army. Revelation 20:1-- CEV

Fire from Heaven

A re-run of Sodom and Gomorrah?

By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land. Then he Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomor-rah from the Lord out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities and also the vegetation in the land. But Lot’s wife looked back and she became a pillar of salt.

Genesis 19:23-26 NIV

And that’s it. In a ball of celestial flame, the rebellion is over. There will be no repeat of the plagues of the Tribulation nor of the judgements of the Great Tribulation. Once and for all, human rebellion will have been wiped out of existence.¼

The Millennium will prove that even the best of conditions a thousand years of peace, prosperity, safety, long life, health, abundance cannot change the wicked-ness of the unredeemed human heart. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can do that!

Will There Ever

Be War Again?

No. Never again. The Battle of Gog and Magog is earth’s absolute last and final battle. Immediately following the Battle of Gog and Magog will be the Great White Throne Judgement and Lake of Fire.

Two Separate Battles

This Battle of Gog and Magog of chap-ter 20 must not be confused with the Battle of Armageddon of chapter 16. The millennial age lies between them. This Battle of Gog and Magog is the battle of the Great Day of God Almighty. ¼ Thus ends all sin and rebellion from this planet. ¼ God has proven in each age that the natural man is incorrigible and grows worse and worse.

Will the Saints Fight?

"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "Do you not think that I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?" Matthew 26:52 NIV

· And the Lord sent an angel, who annihila-ted all the fighting men and the leaders and officers in the camp of the Assyrian king Sennacherib. 2 Chronicles 32:21

· The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Matthew 13:41-42 NIV

· And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled downthat ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

Revelation 12:7-8 NIV

· I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. ...and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him ... He treads the wine-press of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Revelation 19:11-16 NIV
