Why This Battle?

A final remedy

The Biblical view of history is linear. History progresses from the Fall, in which evil enters the world, to the end of history, in which evil needs a final remedy. It was never God’s plan that evil continue throughout all eternity.

Who Starts This Battle?

The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty¼ men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from dread of the Lord and the splendor of his majesty when he rises to shake the earth.

Jerusalem inhabited in security

Then the Lord shall go forth and fight against those nations as on the day when he fought on the day of battle. His feet shall stand, on that day, upon the mount of Olives¼ and the mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley; and half of the mountain shall move northward, and the other half southward¼ Then the Lord shall become King over all the earth¼ and there shall be no more curse, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited in security.

Where is Armageddon?

Armageddon is the Hebrew name forThe mountain of Megiddo. Megiddo is the name of a city which is located in the Plain of Es-draelon, a Y shaped region about 15 miles southeast of present day Haifa, Israel.

In the Old Testament it is the Valley of Jezreel, and the Valley of Megiddo. More battles have been fought on this plain than on any other battlefield in the world.

We might expect the Battle of Armaged-don to take place on this plain, but if Arma-geddon means The mountain of Megiddo, could it be that the Battle of Armageddon will take place in the mountains, much like present day Osama bin Laden and Taliban in the mountains of Afghanistan?

The actual Battle of Armageddon

Then they gathered the kings together, to the place that in Hebrew is called Arma-geddon. The seventh angel poured out his bowl [vial] into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, "It is done!"

Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.

The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God re-membered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the fury of his wrath.

Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found. From the sky huge hail-stones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God¼ because the plague of hail was so terrible.

Two Harvests

Then I saw a white cloud, and seated on it a being like a man, with a gold crown¼ and a sharp sickle in his hand¼ So he¼ swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

Another angel¼ had a sharp sickle¼ The angel swung his sickle on the earth and gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath. The grapes were trodden in the winepress¼ and blood poured out of the winepress in a stream so deep that for 200 miles it came up to the horses’ bridles.

Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast?"

The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast all whose names have not been written in the book of life, belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.
